Wayne's Accomplishments

What I Accomplished On County Council

When I served as your Division 3 Councillor from 2013 to 2021, my focus was always on practical results. I worked to make sure Division 3 had a strong voice at the table. Here are some of the things I am proud of, and why they matter for our farms, acreages, and rural communities:

  • Broadband motion and advocacy
I brought forward the motion that launched Sturgeon County’s broadband project and kept pushing until the pilot came to Villeneuve and Calahoo. Reliable internet is no longer a luxury. It is essential for farms, families, and businesses.

  • Pavement on Campsite Road, Meadowview Drive, and Twp. Road 544 into the Pro North Industrial Park
Good roads mean safer travel for families, less wear and tear on vehicles and farm equipment, and stronger access for local business. In addition to successfully advocating for the above roadwork, I also worked to put pavement to Pine Sands and Dover into the budget. Without my advocacy, that project was not carried forward after the 2021 election.

  • Drainage budget for Calahoo and elsewhere in Sturgeon County
Flooding is a serious issue in Calahoo and other parts of the county. By establishing a drainage budget, we made progress on a long-standing problem that needed attention.

  • Relocating and upgrading rural mailboxes
This was about security and safety. Protecting mail means protecting residents from theft and vandalism.

  • Holding gravel operations accountable and ensuring land is reclaimed properly
Gravel is important to our economy, but it has to be managed responsibly. I worked to make sure land was reclaimed in ways that bring lasting value to Division 3 residents.

  • National Climate Leadership
I was one of only 93 elected officials across Canada (out of more than 2,100) chosen to participate in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Climate Leadership Course. That placed me in the top five percent of municipal leaders nationally on this file.

  • As a Certified Climate Change Ambassador, I was appointed by the FCM president to serve on multiple national committees over a five-year span. Five successive FCM presidents recognized my contributions to advancing municipal leadership on watershed management, environmental sustainability, and climate readiness.

I also showed up where it matters. I did not miss council meetings, board commitments, or community events unless it was completely unavoidable. Community events are where you hear concerns directly from residents. Boards and committees are where Sturgeon County’s voice must be heard at the regional table. That is the record I am proud to stand on.
