When I served as your Councillor, I showed up. Council meetings. Board commitments. Community events. I was there unless it was completely unavoidable. That is how you hear concerns directly from residents and make sure Sturgeon County’s voice is heard at the regional table.
I am ready to bring that same commitment back to Division 3. These are the priorities I will work for, and why they matter to our farms, acreages, and rural communities:
- A 24-hour manned firehall in Villeneuve and Calahoo
Faster response times save lives and property. A staffed firehall also lowers insurance costs for homeowners. Built with training space, dorms, a kitchen, and room for community use, the station can support firefighters and residents for years to come.
- A Division 3 training facility
Training local firefighters and first responders here at home means stronger coverage across the County.
- Stronger rural and industrial crime prevention
Current methods are not enough. We need to support the RCMP with better tools that fit rural needs and help protect families, farms, and businesses.
- Protecting watersheds and managing gravel responsibly
Clean water and healthy land are vital to rural living. Gravel must be developed carefully and reclaimed so the land can serve residents again. Gravel revenues and grants should also be used to protect areas like the Sturgeon River and Carrot Creek watershed. There is only one water and we must steward it well.
- A drainage masterplan tied to growth
New projects must manage water properly. A master plan protects farmland and communities from flooding. The County also needs to work with Morinville and other regional neighbours so drainage plans are in harmony for future development. With projects like Ray Gibbon Drive, we only get one chance to reclaim land in ways that benefit residents.
- Jobs tied to Villeneuve Airport and the Edmonton region
Working with the Edmonton Airport Authority and economic development partners will bring jobs and investment close to home.
- Opportunities for micro-farming on 5 and 10 acre parcels
Smaller farms give the next generation a chance to stay in the County and build new farm businesses.
- A trail system linking St. Albert to Villeneuve
Trails and fishing ponds give families places to gather, connect our communities, and promote healthy living. By directing gravel revenues into rejuvenation projects instead of general revenue, we can build a trail network from Villeneuve to the Sturgeon River, Carrot Creek, Calahoo, and beyond.
- Turning municipal reserve lands into natural areas on acreages
In subdivisions where parks are not needed or wanted, natural areas can reduce mowing costs, provide habitat, and buffer noise.
- Ask before acting
Every subdivision should help decide how its Municipal Reserve land is used, whether that means keeping it mowed, planting trees, or looking at other options.
- Listen by area
Division 3 is diverse. By dividing the Division into four quadrants and asking what matters most in each, we can better address concerns like crime and other local priorities.
Practical steps that strengthen Division 3 today and leave it better prepared for tomorrow.
